- This is for pie makers that want to try new flavors/ingredients/ideas in pie making
Unfortunately, I am an old dog pie maker that is uncomfortable with air brushing, weird new flavors, etc. - I am obsessed with this cookbook! As other reviewers have said, the pictures are gorgeous! There are pictures of every pie and very detailed, clear instructions that anyone can follow regardless of your pie baking expertise. Paul and Chris are so creative with their updated versions of pie! Yes, everyone knows pie, but I promise you , you have not seen pies like this before! I love reading the special notes and the stories behind the inspiration for each pie. Even though Paul and Chris have won over 500 awards for baking, including Best of Show in the Amateur division of the National Pie Championships, do not be intimidated by this book! Paul and Chris are two super nice, funny, knowlegable and relatable guys who just want to share some pie with you. I have probably made less than 10 pies from scratch in my entire life and even I was easily able to re-create the South Seas Coconut Deluxe you see in the picture. I am not kidding when I say that this pie was DIVINE and I had nothing but rave reviews from family and friends. It was creamy, coconutty, with just enough dulche de leche to lend that oh-so-craveable combination of salty and sweet. They say it is reminiscent of a certain girl scout cookie but for me it was even better. I was a little afraid that it would be too sweet for my taste actually but the flavors and textures were very well balanced. Now, I have no desire to enter any pie baking competitions but this book has renewed my interest in baking again much to the delight of my family. -) If you're wondering how innovative can they be with pie, check out the names of just a few of them... There is Clemeza's Cannoli pie ( gorgeous!!), Guavaberry Apple, a Strawberry Margarita pie (with a salted rim!) , an elegant Bellini pie that calls for a cup of champagne, and simply the cutest pie I've ever laid eyes on, the Lovey Dovey pie on page 241 but I won't give away the adorable secret of that one. You'll just have to get the book for yourself. Paul and Chris give some advice in the beginning of their book on how to use their cookbook and I highly recommend reading through these beginning pages first. Then read through your chosen recipe thoroughly before you begin. The detailed notes and explanations will help you feel that they are right there helping you along every step of the way. If you are wondering whether or not to get this book , trust me when I say that you cannot find these pies anywhere else! They are impresseive to look at, have grown-up elevated, modern flavors and are fun to make!
- I pre-ordered this book to give to my BIL for his birthday, thinking that he would enjoy some of the very cool pie projects presented in this book. Lots of the pie recipes are right up his alley as he loves so many of the flavor elements in these pies-- maple syrup, peanut butter, chocolate, cocktails. For sure you could go crazy and recreate some of these masterpiece pies, but there are also some simpler creations, and SO many practical tips and tricks to give you new ways to up your pie game! The photographs are out of this world, the writing is crisp and clear (and exciting!) Can't wait to see what my BIL does with the book, and might just need another copy for myself!
- OMG I have just won the Grand Prize (the “golden whiskâ€) at my kids’ school baking contest. The PIE OF THE TIGER was incredible. The school mascot is a tiger and I ordered a tiger stencil for the top. This pie DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT. OMG, it is the absolutely most delicious pie I have ever had in my almost 50 years! I also learned a “golden nugget†- how to stabilize real whipped cream so that it lasts more than a couple of hours without melting! Worth the price of the book alone! Looking forward to diving into more pies - this book was recommended to me by a friend who owns her own bakery business. She knows the authors and said that the book would be incredible. She was RIGHT!
- i love the flavor combinations and fresh ideas in "the new pie" - thumbing through always gets me ready to create something delicious. their pie crust really will change your life! (but i suggest starting with the fizzy root beer "float".)
also, the thought down to every detail of the book design are inspired... recipes w both weight and volume measurements! a fully sourced equipment list with everything but a bar code! but i must say, having difficulty levels on the recipes is the best part bc i know what i'm getting myself into before i start lol. - Bought this book last week and have read it from cover to cover. I must say amazing pictures, clear and easy to follow directions ( a must in my opinion), and great stories behind the inspiration for some really unique pie flavors. I originally thought chocolate coated potato sticks on pie was nutty, but having now tried it for myself I think it was a stroke of genius. This is not your mom/grandma’s pie book. No “typical†pies. These are next level pies in terms of flavors and ingredients. Live a little and try something different.
- I have never baked a pie. Never. But this book with it's alluring pies like the "1651 Richmond" (Golden Girls inspired), the "Pittsburgh Proud" (add fries) and so, so many others, has made me determined to bake a pie. The book is complete with ratings for Ingredients (ease of finding), Equipment (Do I have this in my kitchen?), and Construction (ease of assembly). This book truly lives up to its name! I'm in love!
- I hope I can review again once I have tried out some recipes, but for now I'm just enjoying the beauty of these pies and the easy reading that makes me feel like I know the authors (your first date = #relationship goals!) I have always loved to bake but pies (dough!) haven't really been my thing - I think mostly because they didn't appeal to me in the same way as cakes and cookies. The beautiful photos and the easy way the recipes are laid out in the book make me want to invest some time to get on the other side of my pie-making aversion.

Cinque minuti. Cinque giri di orologio in cui c’è tutto, ma proprio tutto, anche chi si pettina nonostante sappia che uscito da quelle quattro mura ci sarà un inferno pronto a spettinarlo. C’è chi si mangia un cioccolatino, o chi sorseggia uno shottino di grappa, ruvida e forte, che scorre giù per il corpo come un energizzante. Cinque minuti. Qualcuno fa sempre la stessa domanda ‘’ Salva pelle?’’ ahimè anche la risposta è sempre la stessa ‘’ Hai rotto il cazzo, compratelo!’’ potete immaginare il perché di tanta asprezza. Sono così quei cinque minuti, uno spazio piccolo ma infinito, lo spazio più romantico del calciatore dilettante, quello che davvero fa capire quanto poco sia presa in considerazione questa realtà. Ci sono ragazzi che provano emozione nel giocare una partita di Seconda Categoria, perché magari è il loro esordio, quello che per il mondo sembra banale, ma in quel momento, per quella persona è tutto, tutto il massimo della sua carriera, e credetemi, certe emozioni, vanno rispettate, perché sono vere.Sono vere perché, fondamentalmente, posano su basi che non esistono. Dietro a quella pelle un po’ sollevata dai brividi e quello sguardo perso sul pavimento infangato, non c’è nessun interesse. Quasi sempre, o forse sempre, non c’è nessun rimborso spese, nessun premio, niente, solo voglia di giocare. Giocare sì, praticare il gioco del pallone, o almeno provarci. Perché non è facile giocare nei dilettanti, non certo per il livello troppo alto, ma per tutta una serie di componenti che però, se venissero a mancare, renderebbero noioso tutto ciò che ora è tremendamente eccitante.Cinque minuti di rumore, quello dei tacchetti sul pavimento, di conforto, quello che ti dà la pacca sulla spalla data dal capitano, di rabbia, quella che proviene dalla voglia, che a sua volta trova le sue radici più profonde nella passione.È tutto qui insomma, in questi cinque minuti che racchiudono al meglio un calcio quasi dimenticato, giocato su campi lunghi qualche metro in meno e larghi qualche metro in più. I campi della provincia Italiana, fatti di spogliatoi maleodoranti e porte scrostate, di piccoli miracoli fotografati e appesi al muro a segnare il tempo che, inesorabilmente, fa il suo corso.

- Sometimes you don’t see what’s right in front of you. And sometimes distance is all you need to see what you have. Hades always been that deal in my eyes and in this book he proved why I loved how he was on his grown man taking care of Lo and Lil Lo. But still showed his savage side. Then Lo I loved her in this book she showed so much growth and grown woman stuff that I cheered her. Hiro I love that quiet crazy they chill for the most part until you bring it out and then it’s a whole other person. His focus and love was awesome to see and then Ms.Akela she been a favorite since her parents story she hasn’t changed a bit just got more focused loved her and Yohan sexy ass lord a mercy that’s a grown man. Then I loveed seeing family from previous books this was a fire finale.
- This was an ok read. I love the Hearts, Royals, and Smith. The family dynamics are what love and family is all about Kela was getting on my last nerve with her childish butt, but she finally got it together. Hedes and Lo still had they love and bond with each other. I think she forgave Hedes to quickly for my liking because was straight up wrong for what he did! Hiro was dumb at times as well, with having unprotected sex with Ziro, guess he didn't learn the first time. Thank God, she didn't get pregnant by him. All of was a pretty good read and worth the purchase! I took one star away due to the typos!
- This was a detailed, lengthy, and well executed standalone. This is my fav next to legacy and lib. I loved how it was placed over a long period of time and also that they didn’t immediately get together like the other couples in the family. Hades was book bae this time around! Lo grew up so much. I was happy for all them. Great job!

- You know what Nett i ain't even mad at you cause at the end of the day everyone got their happily ever after although while reading i thought I would have a panic attack because I was like I know she didn't let Hades and Loyalty to through all they did for them to break up behind a bum biotch about a Honda nawl she wouldn't and than got sick thinking man did she really separate Kela and Hiro from being besties seriously man I'm about to pull up on this lady she tripping but than I kept reading and was like whet they ain't even going to hug unh unh but than I kept reading and was like ok y'all better get it to-get-her but girl ya pen game is on point loved it and an ready for the next one strongly recommend this book
- This was a very good read. These characters were hilarious. I couldn’t do anything except laugh at these fools. Hiro and Kela were something else. The relationship they had was so cute. Lo and Hades were a mess. Hades made a dumb decision and luckily it wasn’t dumb enough to cause him to lose his woman. I was happy with how things played out!!
- I really love these families. I loved taking this journey with Akela, Hiro, Loyalty and Hades. I feel like I know them and watched them grow into the adults they are. I’m so proud of Lo as if she is my real life niece lol! I wanted Hiro and Akela together but wasn’t sure how’d they get there. I’ve read plenty of best friends to lovers book but this was the absolute best! Yohan wasn’t all that bad and neither was Zuri. They just weren’t meant for Akela and Hiro. Great great read!
